The Bad Waitress // Coffee Shop Review

the prelude:
It's ironic (hipster!) that I'm reviewing a cafe for the first official post of my coffee shop reviews. I recognize this.

The Basics:
Anyway, The Bad Waitress has become what I used to like the Spyhouse for being: a good place to get a cup of halfway decent coffee, sit amidst some neat decor, and soak up an atmosphere suitable for almost anything. Since Spyhouse abandoned the helm of this ship, TBW has inherited both its mantle and most of its old furniture.

The Coffee:
The espresso in the Thai Coffee I got during my last visit was, well, not good. It initially overwhelmed what later became a pleasant amount of sweetened condensed milk with improperly extracted flavors you seem to get at places with roots in what is affectionately referred to as "Second Wave" coffee. But, as I said, the amount of sweetened condensed milk was just about right, making for a delicious second half of the cup. This hasn't always been the case -- their tendency in the past has been to turn the sweetness up to 11, dentist bills notwithstanding.

The...Food?
Also, while it may be slightly outside the scope of this review, my experience with the food has been great recently. I had "The Matador" (El Matador?) during the two visits preceding this one. Both were excellent and a decent amount of food for the price. I'm glad this is the case; in the past I've been astonished by the tiny portion size in comparison to the price.

The Wrap:
So, should you go? Absolutely. Sit in the right-hand half of the space, where you can enjoy the classic furniture and great views of 26th and Nicollet.  I'm thankful there's a place like this.
